El Gato Charities is dedicated to working in tandem with Houston’s Cat Cafe,
El Gato Coffeehouse to foster and adopt cats.

Our space serves as their home while our team works to find placement for all of the cats in our care. Guests are able to come in and interact with the cats in order to find the right cat for their lifestyle. Since opening in April 2017, we have dedicated our resources to helping over 330 cats find homes.

Guest pay a cover to enter, however this revenue is not always adequate to maintain the operating costs. El Gato depends on donations to supplement meeting the cats needs, including food, litter, vetting costs, incremental rent & overhead costs to shelter, staffing for the care of the cats, cat supplies and toys for enriching the lives of the cats.

In July 2020, El Gato Charities, a 501(c)(3), was formed to bridge the financial gap and increase donations, which are now tax-deductible, in order to continue to operate as Houston’s only cat cafe. This is even more critical to our mission in a COVID -19 world, in which our operations and revenues are less than 50% of normal. Our hope is that offering tax-exempt donations, eligible for company matches, through El Gato Charities, will not only secure the future of El Gato Coffeehouse, but also allow us to make a bigger imprint on the cat community of Houston through increasing our TNR efforts, education efforts and rescue efforts, as well as making even more contributions to our rescue partner, Animal Justice League.
